Earlier this month, the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office and the Pottawattamie County Emergency Management Agency joined agencies from across the region for National Night Out at Tom Hanafan River’s Edge Park in Council Bluffs. This annual community-building event brings neighbors and law enforcement together to strengthen relationships, promote public safety, and celebrate community.
The Sheriff’s Office showcased a variety of specialized equipment, including the armored skid loader known as The ROOK, UTV, patrol vehicles, bomb truck and robot, and the jail transport van. Representatives from the jail, 911 communications, courthouse security, and road patrol were on hand to answer questions, share safety information, and hand out popsicles and giveaways.
Pottawattamie County Emergency Management also connected with residents, offering preparedness tips and sharing information about upcoming events for National Preparedness Month in September. They invited the community to attend the upcoming Preparedness Fair on Thursday, September 18, which will feature hands-on activities, demonstrations, and resources to help families be ready for emergencies.
The evening included free food provided by the Rapid Response Team, a helicopter landing, bubbles, face painting, K9 demonstrations, raffles, and giveaways. Other participating agencies included the Council Bluffs Police Department, U.S. Marshal Service, Iowa State Patrol, Lewis Township Fire and Rescue, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and Council Bluffs Fire Department.
Perfect summer weather made it an ideal evening for families to enjoy the activities and meet the first responders who serve our community every day.
